Kortney Wilson, the co-host and lead designer of HGTV’s hit TV show, Masters of Flip is coming to The Great Big Home + Garden Show's opening weekend! Read on for the inside scoop on what she loves about her job, favorite spaces to makeover and more.
Q: What is the best part of your job?
Kortney: "It’s very satisfying to see a project do a 180 in less than four months allowing me to start from scratch and be creative again."
Q: What’s your go-to hostess gift?
Kortney: "I love giving a really beautiful cutting board. Something that can sit out even when you aren’t cutting up your vegetables :)."
Q: What’s one thing you think people should splurge on for their home?
Kortney: "I’d splurge on linens. Bedding can really spice up a room and if you get the good stuff, it may just help you to sleep better too."
Q: What’s one simple thing homeowners can do to improve their landscape or garden?
Kortney: "Trim everything back and mulch quarterly. Mulching will ground all of the plants and make everything stand out. It goes hand in hand that it’s a reminder to trim everything back and weed the gardens before you mulch so they all go hand in hand."
Q: What is your favorite space to makeover and why?
Kortney: "The kitchen is always my favorite room in the house. It’s usually the hub of the home and I always try to go about it from a party perspective. Can the buyers family and friends all hang in the room without it feeling congested (even if the room is small)? Are the amenities there to make it a room to stand the test of time?"
